FROM AROUND THE BLOCK | TramaDesign

This week marks the beginning of a new feature on the blog. From around the block is all about new projects with a Portuguese label. There's a lot of good stuff around here worth talking about and sharing with you.

And what a better way to start this feature than with the good friend of mine, the Portuguese designer Marta Ricardo.
Her brand, called TramaDesign was born five years ago and it's meaning is the brand's concept. The word is an anagram of her name Marta and one of the forming parts of a fabric (Trama, portuguese for thread).
TramaDesign embraces different areas of design, from graphic to fashion design, standing for a traditional/modern combination. This project, initially focused on graphic design works and costume design, has gradually turned towards to handcrafted and fashion pieces. The bespoke is also a part of Marta's project. All the pieces are unique, handmade and they can be customized.
TramaDesign office and atelier are based in Alentejo where cork is an important raw material, very typical of Portugal. This is the material that Marta uses the most in her Trama designs and accessories collections, along with other fabrics and fashionable materials.
Now she's nominated for the Cáceres Pop Art and Pop-Eye Prizes 2012 along with 3 Spanish designers and 3 Portuguese designers.
At the moment Marta is developing a new fashion design project for the brand in which the essence key is achieving a larger number of costumers, and yet, keeping the pieces exclusive but industrialized. With this project Marta hopes to see her designs coming true and hitting the stores.

For now you can find TramaDesign in:
TramaDesign Office // St. Eng José Frederico Ulrich nº 47, 7005-117 Azaruja, Portugal
Markets and some handcraft & design shops.

Check it out Marta's work guys.
From notebooks to earrings or iPhone and iPad cases made of cork, the pieces are just lovely.

From around the block tem como objectivo dar a conhecer novos projectos totalmente portugueses.

Atelier // R. Eng José Frederico Ulrich nº 47, 7005-117 Azaruja
